Looking for an iPhone compatible baby monitor?

If you're an iPhone user, you're probably interested in finding a baby monitor that works with iPhone, a baby monitor that's actually compatible with iPhone so you can watch your baby on your smartphone. If you carry your iPhone while doing various tasks at home, it's more convenient to be able to check out on your baby on the smartphone than to carry another device - a parent unit from the baby monitor set.

Only a handful of baby monitors allow you to easily use your iPhone as the parent unit and this lens will give you all the information about them you need. Among described devices you'll find both baby monitors (devices manufactured solely for this purpose) and cameras that can be used as a baby monitor. You should know that some parents decide to use a surveillance camera as a baby monitor and it works out for them very well. In fact, you'll probably be able to save a lot of money by choosing a camera that allows you to use an iPhone app to view the video feed from it instead of an actual baby monitor. Without further ado, let's check out baby monitors that are compatible with iPhone.

Instead of expensive dedicated baby monitors with iPhone support!

Foscam FI8910W Wireless/Wired Pan & Tilt IP/Network Camera isn't a dedicated baby monitor, but a surveillance camera. However, quite a few people use it as a baby monitor and they're quite satisfied with it. It's definitely cheaper than standard baby monitors with iPhone support, so if you're on a budget, or you'd simply like to save some money, this camera might be the best choice for you.

It features good quality video with infrared night vision and audio. You can pan and tile the camera remotely. You can watch what's going on in your baby's room using a computer, a smartphone (iPhone, Android, BlackBerry) or a tablet, anywhere you go. The camera has the two-way audio communication feature, so you can even talk to your baby through it (the quality of audio provided by camera's speakers isn't great, but you can plug the camera into your own device if you really need this feature). You have access to a simple web interface when you can modify some settings of the camera.

One thing about the iPhone apps - some people complain about no sound from the nursery on their iPhone. If that's the case, you might want to check out two apps: IP Cam Viewer Pro and Live Cams Pro. One of them should resolve your problems and allow you to hear the sound of your baby's bedroom. Check them both and decide which on is more suitable for you!

WiFi Baby 2.0

WiFi Baby 2.0 (2013 Model)

WiFi Baby 2.0 is a newer version of WiFi Baby 1.0 (released in 2012), a WiFi camera that wirelessly connects to your WiFi network and streams video and audio to your iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac or PC.

Reviews of this model are noticeably better than reviews of WiFi Baby 1.0, so one can be sure that the manufacturer have done some serious work to resolve many of the issues the older version of the product had. Few of the more important new features are: smoother video, better WiFi range and speed, some white noise elimination. It can be also used as nanny cam - you can schedule recording when you're very busy and watch it later.

One thing you need to be aware of - quite a few people find setting up this baby monitor pretty difficult (although few finds it very easy) , but the customer service do a really good job at helping with it. Once you're set up, you shouldn't face any major difficulties.

Withings Smart Baby Monitor

Withings Smart Baby Monitor is a baby monitor with dedicated free app for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch. It has a ton of useful features like e.g. monitoring humidity, motion and temperature, remote interaction with the baby (you can talk to your child, play lullabies or turn on the multicolor night light). You can even set up some notifications, so you'll be informed when there is noise, movement, temperature or humidity change in the nursery. All of these features are easily configurable. You can monitor your baby at home or while being away, like in your office.

All of what I've described about this baby monitor sounds great, but there are also some flaws, like e.g. there is no option to turn off audio on iPhone. I'm pretty sure that the producers will gradually take care of some of these flaws (those related to the software). A group of people reported some major hardware issues, like the inability to maintain the wi-fi connection through the whole night, which is important for a baby monitor. Before buying this monitor I suggest you should read at least a few customer reviews (possibly some up to date ones). In case of any doubts, I'd go with the WiFi Baby monitor or the Foscam camera.

Dedicated but a little expensive solution

WiFi Baby is a great baby monitor set for iPhone users (it's a little expensive though). The set includes a WiFi camera that wirelessly connects to your WiFi network.

You can monitor your baby (video and audio) using your iPhone, iPad (you have to pay for the app separately), Mac, PC or even Android smartphone from anywhere. The camera features infrared night vision, so you can watch your baby at night as well. Audio and video from the camera are password protected, so no one besides you will be able to watch the video from the camera. If you'll encounter any problems while setting up the whole system, just contact the customer service.

BabyPing

BabyPing Secure Wi-Fi Baby Monitor for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

BabyPing is another iPhone compatible baby monitor (it also works with iPad and iPod Touch). The video quality (both throughout the day and during the night) is good. The video and audio feed from the monitor is encrypted and password protected. The app that comes with the monitor allows you to set up various alerts - audio, vibration and on-screen, depending on your needs. Also, it can run in the background.

Please note that the BabyPing must be connected using a network cable to your WiFi router to set it up for the first time. Then you can unplug the cable and put the monitor anywhere where it's within your router's range. Therefore, if you plan on taking the monitor on vacation, you need to remember to take the network cable with you (you can't setup the device over WiFi).

All in all, many people are very fond of this baby monitor, but there's also a group of people who experienced a lot of problems with it. The issues that those people had were mostly related to WiFi connection. Few people noticed that the app lost its connection with the monitor and reconnected after a while, or even sometimes it had problems with reconnecting. I believe that's an issue with the app, so there's still some room for improvement for BabyPing. Once all those issues will be sorted out, it will be a great option for anyone looking for a baby monitor compatible with iPhone. For now, it's worth considering, but if it won't work flawlessly, I'd return it and chosen a different one.
