Of course there are quite a lot of food processors available on the market, both ones designed especially food making baby food and others regular food processors that can be use for food prep for everyone. That's why I've prepared this little guide to buying a food processor that will satisfy your requirements without draining your wallet.

Baby food processor or a regular one?

Many people when looking for a food processor for making baby food are convinced that they need a baby food processor, not a regular one. Why is that? Baby food processor manufacturers claim that if you'll make baby food using their device, it'll be somehow better for your little one than food made using an "adult" food processor. Since the thing that matters the most in food for children is the food itself and not the means by which you prepare it (food processor, blender, using various kitchen utensils), manufacturer's claims doesn't seem to hold water.

Truth be told, there are two advantages of baby food processors over "adult" ones - almost all of them have a steamer and probably all of them are BPA free. Regular food processors don't feature a steamer, but you can always steam the fruits and veggies yourself before processing them. Also, most food processors nowadays are BPA-free as well.

That said, if you really need a baby food processor that features a steamer, you can pick one of the best-selling ones like Beaba Babycook Baby Food Maker. In my opinion this isn't, the best choice for you. Why? Just check out customer reviews - quite a lot of people complain about various features and issues of the product and that's true for almost every baby food processor I've found. All in all, baby food processors might be very useful, but it's very difficult to find one that will be really great.

Regular food processors

Buying a regular food processor for making baby food seems to be the best choice - you buy a kitchen appliance that can be useful for a whole lot of chores in the kitchen and won't become basically useless once you'll stop processing food for your little one. When buying a regular food processor, you should consider few things:

  • how often you'll use it - you'll use the food processor only for making baby food, buying an inexpensive one really makes sense. If you'd like to use it at least every once in a while, consider buying higher-end model. If you plan to use it very often, spending over $150 on a really good device is a reasonable choice.
  • how many additional features (or so-called bells and whistles) the product should have or large it should be - if you don't need that extra bells and whistles (or extra capacity), but you'll use the food processor often, buying a good one like Cuisinart DLC-10S Pro seems to be the best choice. You get a quality device without spending a lot of money on in.
  • your budget - if your budget is limited, you can only afford some of the low-end food processors. If what you need is a really big, heavy-duty one, then I suggest you should wait until you can afford it (if you'll buy a cheaper one, you'll have to buy a more expensive one anyway). Unless for some reason you really need a food processor to prepare food for your child, then it makes sense to buy a cheaper one and postpone buying the bigger one for some time.

Regular Food Processors

Great if you're looking for a device to use on a daily basis and not only for making baby food!

Cuisinart DLC-10S Pro
Cuisinart DLC-10S Pro

Cuisinart DLC-10S Pro Classic 7-Cup Food Processor

Cuisinart DLC-10S is a BPA-free food processor with dishwasher-safe parts. It features a stainless steel chopping/mixing blade, dough blade, medium slicing disc and a shredding disc. It has the capacity of 7 cups, which might be too little when you're preparing food for a big family, but for making baby food it's more than enough (you can batch for freezing or storing). You just take cooked foods (or raw soft ones), put them in and baby food is done within seconds.

All in all, it's a great choice if you plan to use it regularly, but only if the 7-cup capacity is sufficient for your needs. When looking for a good food processor for making baby food and other kitchen chores, it's one of the best choices!

Cuisinart Prep Plus Food Processors
Cuisinart Prep Plus Food Processors

Cuisinart Prep Plus Food Processor

Cuisinart Prep Plus is available in two versions - with a 9-cup bowl or an 11-cup one. This capacity is more than enough for baby food and should be sufficient for preparing food for the whole family. If you're not sure if a 9-cup model will be large enough, buy the 11-cup one. This food processor features a dough blade, chopping/mixing blade, slicing blade and a medium shredding blade. It's easy to take apart and all removable parts are dishwasher safe, so it's easy to clean after work. It's also pretty quiet.

If you're looking for a BPA-free food processor that will be used for making baby food and quite a lot of other foods (like smoothies, purees, etc.) for the whole family, it's a great choice!

Cuisinart DFP-14
Cuisinart DFP-14

Cuisinart DFP-14 14-Cup Food Processors

Cuisinart DFP-14 is a BPA-free (according to manufacturer's website) food processor with 14-cup bowl. It features stainless-steel slicing disc, shredding disc, chopping blade and a dough blade.

It's a really large and capacious food processor, so it's for you only if you plan on using it on a regular basis and to processing a lot of food at a time. If you're looking for a food processor mostly for making baby food, this model is definitely too large and I suggest considering Cuisinart DLC-10S Pro instead.

Inexpensive Food Processors

Great if you need a food processor only for making baby food!

Black & Decker EHC650
Black & Decker EHC650

Black & Decker EHC650 2-Speed Food Chopper with 3-Cup Bowl

Black & Decker EHC650 is a really compact food processor with 3-cup bowl. It features a 150 watt motor, so it's not a really powerful device. Manufacturer states that the motor is capable of chopping or mincing vegetables, fruits, herbs, cheese, nuts, chocolate, cooked meats and bread.

It's easy to use and great for making baby food, but if you're looking for a food processor that will help you with processing large amounts of food, you definitely need a bigger device.

Hamilton Beach 70610
Hamilton Beach 70610

Hamilton Beach 70610 500-Watt Food Processor

Hamilton Beach 70610 is a 10-cup food processor with a 500 watt motor. You can use one of two speeds or the pulse option, depending on your needs. IT features a stainless-steel chopping blade and a slicing/shredding disc that produces very uniform pieces.

If you're looking for an inexpensive food processor with pretty limited list of features, and the mentioned features seem to be enough for your needs, it might be a pretty good food processor for you.
